Hotels in Skopje: what they cost and when to book cheaper
Skopje is one of the more affordable capitals in this part of Europe, and the gap between a hostel bed and a five-star room is genuinely large. We list 1 629 properties: from hostel beds and apartments to hotels around Macedonia Square and along the Vardar. Below you will find prices by property type, the best time to book, and a few sample hotels with rates so you can reach a good deal faster.
When to book a stay in Skopje for less
Prices in Skopje clearly follow the calendar. The cheapest time is winter, around February, plus late autumn and early spring when there are fewer visitors. September and early autumn are the peak, when rates can run about a third higher. Across the week Saturday tends to be the best value, while midweek can be pricier. The best prices usually come about two months ahead. The average stay is roughly 3 nights, so booking the whole short break in advance often beats adding nights at the last minute.

Where to stay in Skopje
The cheapest beds are in the atmospheric Old Bazaar and near the train station, where hostels and small guesthouses cluster. The most convenient base for sightseeing is the very centre, around Macedonia Square and the Stone Bridge, with everything within walking distance and the widest choice of restaurants. The highest-rated hotels and most of the five-star options sit along the Vardar and the main boulevards, while the most scenic settings are closer to Vodno hill and the Matka Canyon.
Which hotel suits whom
- For couples. Boutique hotels in the centre and romantic-style rooms around Macedonia Square. Close to riverside walks along the Vardar and dinner in the Old Bazaar.
- For families. Apartments with a kitchenette and larger family rooms. Near the Zoo and the Aquaterra aquapark, with easy bus connections.
- With breakfast. Many 3- and 4-star hotels include breakfast, often with local dishes such as ajvar. Filter for this option, as it is frequently part of the rate.
- Near the airport. SKP airport sits outside the city, so for an early flight pick a property near the ring road or one offering an airport transfer.

When Skopje gets more expensive
The busiest period is the warm part of the year and early autumn, when visitors arrive for festivals such as the Skopje Summer Festival and the jazz festival. Book earlier for those dates, as the best central properties go first. Off-season, especially in winter, the same standard costs noticeably less.
